The vision of EnglishLL is to make the learning of English available, accessible and affordable to the widest possible audience through good stewardship and support of the mission of Oxford University Press and the University of Oxford. The oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of Oxford is a unique, illustrious and historic institution. Voted the World’s top university in 2017 by the Times Higher, teaching has existed at Oxford in 1096, when Henry II, King of England banned English students from attending the University of Paris. The title of Chancellor was conferred in 1214 and in 1231 the masters were recognised as a universitas. Oxford is now a collegiate university, consisting of the central University and 38 colleges. The central University is composed of academic departments and research centres, administrative departments, libraries and museums, all situated in Oxford, which lies about 60 miles (90 km) north-west of London. Gifted men and women have studied or taught at the University throughout its history. The first book was printed in Oxford in 1478. The University of Oxford’s right to print books was recognised in 1586, which was extended by King Charles I and establishing the right to print the King James Bible in the Seventeenth Century.
